Summer is done

Another summer is over and I am still smiling thinking of the fun that Joe and I had with the grand kiddies, Magnus and Svea. We are so grateful for our time with them and we can’t wait for Magnus to fulfill his promise - “Magnus will come back in the nice weather Gramma”.

Last FM

I love Last FM. You can listen to your favourite artists, find new music and get connected to a wealth of music that you could never hear on mainstream radio. Here is what I am listening to these days:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

So, I finished the book. The 7th book. The final book. I am very depressed about this. Harry Potter books are at an end. Life seems joyless, cold and dark. Kind of like a Dementor is hanging around somewhere

Will there be more stories about Hogwarts? Sure. There has to be, but they won’t be the same.

I can barely type this. It feels as though I have lost my best friend.

The Buddhist philosophy (to which I subscribe) is one of non-attachment. One would think that I would have got that by now but,
OH WELL. . . I’m attached!

Thank god my friend Dreanna brought me some Mickey Mouse ears to cheer me up. They even have my name on them! From the appearance of these ears at precisely this dark moment in time, my belief that the universe is benevolent is confirmed and I can face another day. Yes I can!

Good luck to all of you saying goodbye to Harry. My wish for you . . .
some Mickey Mouse ears.

Mother Millie

Millie, Joe’s lovely mum shared her 79th birthday with us and travelled all the way from Hamilton Ontario to do so. We went to the historic Empress Hotel for high tea (where the Queen herself is rumoured to have enjoyed a cuppa) and thrusting our pinkies forward, passed a few cultured hours in the British Empire ambience of the place.
A few days later we travelled to Salt Spring Island to see a working wool farm and Mum got a chance to pet Louis the Llama.
All in all, it was a lovely visit with a grand old gal and strangely apropos for Vancouver Island - tea and farm animals.

Love you Mumsy!!!

World Partnership Walk

I walked today along with thousands of others for sustainble solutions for the Third World. The Aga Khan Foundation subsidizes this amazing event and all money goes directly to women in the third world for education, for business micro loans, and to build their communities. Not one penny is spent on administration. The Aga Khan foots that bill and in his wisdom, he is putting the power in the hands of the women. His idea - the women can affect the most change through feeding and supporting their families. What an amazing vision and it is focused on solutions, not problems. Amen! Here I am with my friend Salma at the walk today.

That’s Entertainment

This guy actually gets work. He just has to go where the love is.

My Grandchildren

It has been some time since I posted on my blog and the reasons are numerous and boring. Joe and I have moved to a new house in the beautiful Gordon Head area right next to Mount Douglas and the ocean. We just love it. AbeBooks has also moved into skookum new offices and that has been a bit of work.
I also have discovered the wonderful world of audiobooks and have been listening my way through the great philosophers. I am currently on Hegel and I Kant get him out of my mind (tee hee)
Most importantly, my grandchildren will be here in 6 weeks and I cannot wait to see them. Life is good!
