Another summer is over and I am still smiling thinking of the fun that Joe and I had with the grand kiddies, Magnus and Svea. We are so grateful for our time with them and we can’t wait for Magnus to fulfill his promise - “Magnus will come back in the nice weather Gramma”.
Millie, Joe’s lovely mum shared her 79th birthday with us and travelled all the way from Hamilton Ontario to do so. We went to the historic Empress Hotel for high tea (where the Queen herself is rumoured to have enjoyed a cuppa) and thrusting our pinkies forward, passed a few cultured hours in the British Empire ambience of the place.
A few days later we travelled to Salt Spring Island to see a working wool farm and Mum got a chance to pet Louis the Llama.
All in all, it was a lovely visit with a grand old gal and strangely apropos for Vancouver Island - tea and farm animals.

It has been some time since I posted on my blog and the reasons are numerous and boring. Joe and I have moved to a new house in the beautiful Gordon Head area right next to Mount Douglas and the ocean. We just love it. AbeBooks has also moved into skookum new offices and that has been a bit of work.
I also have discovered the wonderful world of audiobooks and have been listening my way through the great philosophers. I am currently on Hegel and I Kant get him out of my mind (tee hee)
Most importantly, my grandchildren will be here in 6 weeks and I cannot wait to see them. Life is good!
Joe turned 55 on Friday, March 2nd. Only his mom and I remembered. Still, Joe didn’t sulk or feel bad. He celebrated getting to 55 at all given his health struggles.
Joe is my all time favourite person. He never feels sorry for himself and he always does his best to speak the truth and help. He is my best friend and after 27 years together, I am really proud of that.
Happy Birthday My Love! You are the best man that I know.

Welcome to my beautiful new baby granddaughter, Svea Elina Engleson. Baby weighed in at about 7.7 lbs at 9:33 am, January 19, 2007 in Dalian China. I haven’t yet beheld her but I have heard her and she has got some lungs! Big Brother Magnus is already trying to protect her from the nurses.

Millie. I have known Millie for some 28 years now and I am always surprised at the depth of her bonhomie. In spite of a rather dreadful marriage, poverty, poor health, a difficult (to say the least) relationship with her own dear mammie and assorted other misadventures, she remains inexhaustably cheerful and happy. Drugs, you ask? Jamais! A good Christian woman, Millie finds solace in Jesus, her family and the unending foolishness of humankind.
After a visit to beautiful Vancouver Island in which she toured not one but several “buck” stores, dear Mother Millie pronounced the island a veritable paradise( all shopping opportunities notwithstanding.
