Winter with A Vengence

Victoria, the island and the southern mainland got slammed last night with the 3rd major winter storm this season. Many people are still without power from the last incident and now, as you can see, trees and powerlines are down all over. Driving is a nightmare. Last night winds in Victoria topped 100 kilometres an hour and Race Rocks at the entrance to Juan de Fuca Strait measured wind speeds at more than 150 kilometres an hour. If this is the result of global warning we are all done for in the not too distant future.

Holy Shit! It Snowed Today!

I have really enjoyed not being in Ontario for the late fall/early winter. Smugly smirking at my poor family and friends back in Windsor, dealing with close to or below zero temperatures has been strangely good for my ego. It is as if I am somehow wiser to have moved to a cleaner, more beautiful and temperate place, while they have chosen to eke out a living in the cold.
Well, the Force or God or the Omnipotent Weather Man put me royally in my place today and gave Victoria 6 inches of wet, heavy snow and it is only November! Joe managed to rally to the occasion and set off to Oak Bay in search of artistic inspiration. This he did inspite of warnings from Scotty that the roads were heavily strewn with buses lying on their sides and cars stranded in snow banks. Undeterred, Joe sallied forth with Guido and took some nice shots. The photos are nice but, then again for me, snow is snow.DSCF0004-2
